(c)2013 ADN ARTISTS & AUTHORS PUBLISHING
NOTES-9-3-2013
(c) 2013 ADN Artists & Authors Publishing (c) 1980 Africans Abroad, by Itha Alleyne (A work-in-progress).The song is a respectful use of all of the entire beats from the Marvin Gaye song, though the lyrics are completely different. Pharrell does mimic some of the Marvin Gaye vocal background ooo-ughs. If you play the two songs together you can almost line them up completely. Though he is recreating the music composition with his own live band rather than using any sampling of Marvin Gaye's song at all. Having seen him perform live I heard as others did that the song "Blurred lines" is not original, but is a remake of "Got to Give it up". Folks from the Marvin Gaye era know and so do those younger that have learned from parents. Even Robin Thicke has indicated that he is greatly influenced by the music of Marvin Gaye. This is what I feel should be incorporated in the music industry, is that any such an influence should be recognized and should be granted a credit on the album notes and yes a royalty credit, because the success of "Blurred Lines" rests on the fact that we've heard this great song before, we love it because we know it, we've loved it before when it was like our first honeymoon, now aged but on our second honeymoon. The marriage is still kicking it. What percentage of a royalty should the estate gets has to be negotiated. THICKE does have "BLURRED LINES" and he should be thinking yes, I've "GOT TO GIVE IT UP" to the Marvin Gaye estate, because the brilliance of Marvin's music which was included in the Movie CHRISTMAS STORY (A young composer, seeing and hearing Thicke perform live, said to me, 'that song he (Thicke) is singing is not new, don't you remember it was in that Chris Brown Movie CHRISTMAS STORY?" I said, "oh yeah, I remember!"). However! This make for a great controversy that gets us talking, makes us look at the great music of Marvin Gaye, and legally try examining how reparations can be given to all the great artists that suffered with loss of credits and income as the industry has been known to indulge itself in using their music with overlaid tracks on their sounds. We love this kind of excitement and this will bring the Music Industry back to a higher level of healthy new reuses of past music that should not die out, but that young artist should be free to use, but also freely paying a percentage to the estates that they can maintain the legacy of our great American Institutions of great music and artists that created it. It would be so beautiful to have the DNA of the influences be able to say YES, THAT'S MY BABY AND I AM THE FATHER. So "Blurred Lines," just kiss and hug your DADDY "Got to give it up," and requite your parents love. Take care of our great big family of music. ONE LOVE. YOUNG ARTISTS SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED TO RE-CREATE AS WELL AS CREATE JUST BE TRUE AND KNOW THAT IT IS GOOD BUSINESS AND THEY'VE "GOT TO GIVE IT UP" TO GET THOSE "BLURRED LINES", TO THE PUBLIC BECAUSE, THEY KNOW WE WANT!! SO THEY'VE "GOT TO GIVE IT UP", YOU KNOW WE WANT IT!!!. hey, hey!!
